Standard products also feature fast delivery times - 48 hours in most cases. Accessories such as thermowells and explosion-proof heads are also available.

A primary focus of Weed is in designing and manufacturing custom RTD and Thermocouples to meet customers' specific application needs. We have the capabilities to wind our own RTD elements, make our own thermocouples, machine and weld/braze our housing assemblies, and we have extensive laboratory facilities to calibrate and test the final assemblies. An experienced team of design and application engineers are available for immediate consultation to solve any type of temperature sensing problem.

Both RTD and Thermocouple signal transmitters are available in several different mounting styles, temperature ranges, and accuracy specifications. Both explosion-proof head mounts and DIN rail mounts are available, with accuracies ranging from .1% to .25% of the calibrated span. Isolated and linearized versions are available, as well as field-configurable units.

Weed offers the ACCU-SENSE line of platinum temperature elements to OEM and end-users. These are the same elements that have given Weed Instrument recognition among temperature sensor users as a quality and reliable supplier. ACCU-SENSE resistance elements are wire-wound using precision controlled platinum and high purity alumina ceramic to ensure precise temperature versus resistance characteristics. As a result of our tightly controlled manufacturing procedures, elements are completely interchangeable from lot to lot. After winding, the elements are coated with a special Weed cement and then carefully annealed. The special cement coating protects the platinum with negligible strain effects and greatly enhances the ruggedness and time response of the element. ACCU-SENSE wire-wound elements offer the following advantages over film elements: (1) Greater accuracy - DIN 43760, Class B; (2) Less Drift due to less sublimation (vaporization) of the platinum; (3) Less hysterics; and (4) better ease of packaging due to ruggedness of element. Elements are also available in Nickel and Copper

How to Size a Sensor
Thermocouples
Broad Temperature Range Good Inherent Accuracy Fast Thermal Response Excellent in Areas of Vibration and Mechanical/Thermal Shock Low cost, rugged and reliable Used primarily in the plastics injection molding, thermoforming, and blow molding. Also used in industrial heat treating, food processing, semiconductor processing and packaging. Weed Instrument designs and manufactures many different types and styles of thermocouples for use in direct immersion or complete assembly applications. All thermocouples are metal sheathed, magnesium oxide insulated and are designed for extended life at high temperatures, severe vibration or thermal shock. They are offered in various sheath sizes, materials, and in either grounded or ungrounded configurations. Weed's thermocouples are tested to standard temperature millivolt curves to assure that they are within the accuracy limits of ISA and ASA Calibration Certificates traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology are available on finished thermocouples.

How to Size a Sensor
Thermowells
A thermowell is a rugged probe, usually constructed of stainless steel or bronze. They are designed to protect the ragile temperature sensors (RTD's and thermocouples) from conditions of high pressure, flow rates and corrosive materials. The sensor is placed in the thermowell before being placed in the pipe where temperature measurement is being conducted. Links below contain data sheet and ordering information.

Connection Heads
Available in general purpose cast iron, epoxy coated aluminum, polypropylene and explosion-proof.  Most housings meet NEMA 4 and can be used with any of Weed's temperature sensors.  Each connection head comes standard with a terminal block, or a Weed Instrument Sensor-Mate® Temperature Transmitter can be installed to complete the assembly.  Links below contain data sheet and ordering information.
